Komets topple Lumberjacks 5-2
Host Icehawks for second place Saturday at 7:30pm

Fort Wayne, IN | Friday, March 12, 2010 --- The Komets chopped the visiting
Lumberjacks 5-2 Friday night to gain two points on league leading Muskegon and pull to within six points of the first-place Jacks. 

The Fort Wayne barrage begain at 4:52 of the first period when Colin Chaulk hit for his 19th goal of the season.  Mitch Woods capped the first period scoring at 13:55.  The Komets picked up where they left off at the :47 mark of the second period with Konstantin Shafranov's 16th tally of the campaign.  Defenseman Danko Mironovic scored his first goal of the season unassisted and short-handed at 4:18 to give the Komets a 4-0 cushion at the second intermission.

The Lumberjacks threatened with two third-period power play goals in 1:13 from Robin Bouchard with a five-on-three advantage at 7:02 and Mario Larocque at 8:15 before Fort Wayne's leading scorer Leo Thomas connected with his 25th goal of the season at the 14:00 mark to ice a 5-2 Komet win.

Fort Wayne's Tim Haun posted his second straight win and 10th straight home win making 24 saves while Muskegon's Sebastien Centomo collected his eighth loss of the season stopping 22 of 27 Fort Wayne shots.   -gamesheet-

The Komets improved to 37-18-1-2 for 77 points and remain one point behind second-place Port Huron, who registered a 4-3 home win in overtime over Bloomington.  Friday night's action sets the stage for a battle for second place Saturday night when Port Huron visits for a 7:30pm faceoff at the Memorial Coliseum.    -standings-/a>.
