— The Komets announced Monday
that they have re-signed defenseman Jake Pence and forward Olivier Legault for
2008-09. The Komets also added rookie defenseman Vince Tarantino to the camp
roster.
Pence, 24, skated all 76 games of the regular season last year with the
Komets posting two goals and 11 points while accumulating 44 penalty minutes.
Pence appeared in 12 playoff games registering two assists in the run for the
Turner Cup championship. Pence completed four seasons at the University of
Massachusetts-Lowell from 2003-2007 before skating his first pro season last
year with the Komets. Pence was honored at the conclusion of last season with
the Komets' Most Improved Player Award.
Legault (luh-GOE), 21, also appeared in his first pro season last year with
the Komets scoring three goals, nine points and 178 penalty minutes in 55 games.
Legault was a fourth round selection by Florida in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft and
was a co-winner with teammate Pence for the Komets' Community Service Award for
2007-08.
Tarantino, 26, finished four seasons with Potsdam (NCAA-SUNYAC) last year and
registered nine assists and 10 points in 22 games during 2007-08.
The Komet's 2008-09 roster
grows to 19 players including 10 forwards, eight defensemen and one goaltender.
The signing of Pence and Legault gives the Komets 10 returnees from last
season's championship squad. Training camp begins Monday, Oct. 6 at the
Coliseum.
Three exhibition games are scheduled. The Komets will host Bloomington
Wednesday, Oct. 8 at 7:30pm and travel to Kalamazoo Friday, Oct. 10 for a 7:30pm
faceoff at Wings Stadium. The Komets and Wings will conclude pre-season play
with a 7:30pm match at the Coliseum in Fort Wayne Saturday, Oct. 11.
The Komet's defense of the Turner Cup championship begins on the road at Port
Huron Friday, Oct. 17. The Fort Wayne home opener is slated for Saturday, Oct.
18 against the Flint Generals at 7:30pm.
